I came into Chinese Democracy forgoing everything I loved about there old music and ready to hear what they came up with and this is all I have to say...15 years for nothing...THis album is absolutely awful.. The guitar and drums are bland, 11 out of the 14 songs sounded just the same ...I swore at times that there were 4 songs on there 3 3-5 minutes and the other one 50 minutes long...The only redeeming value is that Axl's voice sounds extremely good and MOST of the lyrics are good except for a few * Glares at "Prostitue"*... If you don't have Itunes or anyway to get individual songs then avoid this at all costs...SOme might like it, but for me this was terrible, defintely GNR's weakest album.. If you do have itunes or some other type of software I recommend "Better","Chinese Democracy", and "Shackler's Revenge"..
Better- 9 out of 10: Defintely the best track of the album one of the few that has it all, good lyrics, good guitar, and drums a great track, if only the rest of the album was this good.
Chinese Democracy- 8 out of 10: Pretty good has a nice riff and drums and the lyrics sound extremely well... Would have gotten a 9, but the intro sucks for me
Shackler's Revenge- 7.5 out of 10- This song started out as one of the better ones, until it got to the solo, which was awful and ruined this song for me completely..
There you have it. Chinese democracy has some redeeming values and while the lyrics are nice, the overall sound of each song is too bland and not even the lyrics of Axl could save this albumn definetly avoid this except for the 3 I mentioned
