I decided I needed to start a list of things to do when I can't sleep -- which is most of the time.
1. There is of course, the obvious and work on the computer.
a. I could write or edit on my stories
b. I could play a computer game. Wildcoins aplenty in my account.
c. Read my emails
d. Hang out on the site all by myself. Who knows what scary things could happen.
2. If being on the computer is unacceptable due to, oh who know, eyeballs feeling like they're about to pop out of my head, I could always turn on the TV. However, usually at those late hours of the night, Cable has some rather...shall we say, scintillating shows that I really have no desire to watch.
3. I can count the cracks in the ceiling.
4. Plan the next days events -- however, usually nothing too exciting since I'm generally too sleepy to give a rats ass about what I plan to do tomorrow.
5. I'd pay the bills, but what's the point? They'll just send new ones.
6. Read a book, but for one, that requires a light and 99% of the time when I have insomnia, I also have a horrendous headache. Thus rules out reading 99% of the time. For the other 1% of the time, I despise reading while I have a story going through my head. Which naturally brings me to the next item up for bid...
7. I could lay here and think about the story and where I want it to go to next. This however creates another problem in that I want to write. Please refer to item number 6 about the headache.
8. I could count the toothpicks. Why not, maybe if I have enough, I can build a minature fort. *Adds toothpicks to shopping list*
9. I could always hook up the DVD player and watch one of my numerous DVD's, but there is a slight little problem I keep saying I'm going to fix but haven't yet. I don't know which cord goes to where to hook it up. *Makes note to have teenager teach technology challenged mother how to hook up DVD player.
10. Stare out the window and try to figure out where that strange shadow comes from every night.
11. Pet the dog, but she prefers to sleep under the bed.
12. Pet the cat, but three legged cat prefers to terrorize the dog under the bed.
13. Do the laundry. Nah, that's boring. Besides, I wouldn't want to deprive the kids of that chore.
14. Plan a menu, except that destroys the fun of spontaneous shopping. *Makes note* Don't make a menu. Spontaneous shopping is fun even if it isn't cost effective.
15. Hallucinate that some gorgeous hot hunk, which is also a dragon in disguise, is here with me. That though is very dangerous since I'd want to remain in that fantasy.
16. Get a real life, but then that would destroy the fun of making this list!
*************
Ok, so get creative and help me devise new things to do when I can't sleep
